First Bahamian Birthday

It’s hard to turn 35 again.  Luckily, I have Captain Megan in my life, and she steered us into one of the best birthday weekends ever!  After announcing a few weeks ago that I wanted a birthday party on a private island, she arranged just that! She organized a party on a nearby island, at a particularly pristine and uninhabited beach known as Starfish Beach.  Some say it’s a nudist beach, while others say there’s a church that meets there weekly.  We will never know!

We got there early, set up the umbrella, then watched the wind blow it off into the ocean (I swam out to get it).  Shortly thereafter, our best friends started showing up on their various boats!  All of the usual suspects were there, including: the Librarian, the Divemaster, the DEA agent, the jeweler turned restauranteur, the local vet pro tem, the tour guide, the resort manager, even the cop turned bartender!

Great friends make for a great day.  Everyone brought smiles, drinks, and music, and Megan had snacks to keep us going in the inexorable sun!  Some of the highlights were one friend bringing their potcake, Blue, to have a doggie play-date with our girl Shots.  And the homemade coffee ice cream was beyond belief!

After a quick dinner (and some shots) at a local restaurant, we retired to our homes to find out that the water was out!  So here we sit getting more sand in the keyboard… 🙂
